Video Review

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Architecture: The Science of Design
  • In this video a few concepts i’ve learned were the importance technology has in the world around us. Almost everything is now infused with some sort of technology. In the video they discussed how technology is used to enhance the construction of both homes and buildings. Factors such as winds and the environment surrounding where specific buildings are built are reasons why architects incorporate technology while creating blueprints. Highwinds has the ability the sway large 100 story buildings back and forth. The back and forth motion can actually be felt by those inside these buildings.
Frank Gehry: Architecture in Art
  • In this video I noticed they focused mainly on the artistic factors of architecture. By this I mean they thought about the different types of feeling, reactions, and energies the building might emit to those seeing it. Unlike most buildings which usually have plain white walls he wanted buildings to look like none seen before. Creativity and style is infused in Frank Gehry’s view of architecture.
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
  • The videos relates to the reading because they both go into elaborate detail about the ins and outs of architecture. The video as well as the textbook was able to clearly speak on what architecture is.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of Architecture?
  • I enjoyed both films Frank Gehry: Architecture in Art & Architecture: The Science of Design. In both videos I like how they were able to include their personal views and perception on architecture and how they were able to use architecture to relate it to what they’re interested in. In the Frank Gehry: Architecture in Art, Frank Gehry was able to show how art relates and the same was done in the Architecture: The Science of Design video but for science and technology instead.
4. Why did you choose the films that you watched?
I chose these particular films because It showed two opposite views of architecture. They were all knowledgeable on the topic but the concepts discussed in Frank Gehry: Architecture in Art & Architecture: The Science of Design is what intrigues me most.
